
Awards Overview
In addition to the awards offered by ASM nationally, the ASM Vic Branch offers a variety of awards to its members and students are especially encouraged to apply for awards.
ASM Nancy Millis Award
The ASM Nancy Millis Student Award is presented annually to one student member of the ASM from each state: Victoria, NSW, Queensland, WA, SA and Tasmania, to enable them to attend and deliver an oral presentation at the annual scientific meeting of the ASM. It is awarded to the best student presenting research carried out as part of a PhD or Masters by Research and consists of conference registration, return airfare and an accommodation allowance.

ASM VIC Teaching Award
This new award has been created by the ASM Vic Branch to provide our teaching members an opportunity to attend the ASM National Educon meeting. The selected awardee will receive conference registration to attend Educon, in addition to travels funds to cover the cost of registration and accommodation to attend the meeting.

ASM VIC Branch Award
The Victorian ASM branch award is presented annually to one student member from the Victorian branch of the ASM, to enable them to attend the annual scientific meeting of the ASM. It is awarded to the best student presenting research carried out as part of a Masters by Coursework or an Honours degree and consists of conference registration and, if the meeting is interstate, and a travel allowance (e.g. airfare or accommodation) to attend the meeting.

ASM VIC Branch ECR Award
The ASM Vic branch is offering a new award for Vic branch ECR members. This award will fund full conference registration in addition to costs towards travel and accommodation for the successful applicant to attend the ASM national meeting. The successful candidate will present the findings of their research as a 12 minute presentation as part of a dedicated session for all state ECR representatives at the national meeting.

ASM VIC Branch Clinical Award
This new award has been created by the ASM Vic Branch to provide our clinical members an opportunity to attend the ASM National Clinicon meeting. The selected awardee will receive conference registration to attend Clinicon, in addition to travels funds to cover the cost of registration and accommodation to attend the meeting.

Undergraduate Academic Prize
Thirteen student awards are presented annually to the best microbiology students from the previous year (based on final grades) studying a relevant Bachelor’s degree at five participating Victorian universities.

Summer Student Research Awards
Undergraduate microbiology students intending to complete a summer research project may apply for the Summer Student Research Award.

News from the Hospitals Award
Do you have interesting microbial discoveries from the hospitals or pathology laboratories to share? If so, and you are a medical scientist (up to year 1 grade 4) or at an equivalent career stage, then you should apply to present at our News from the Hospitals events.

Microbial Art Prize
Submit your own eye-catching scientific image along with an image description (<100 words) to be in the running to win fun prizes and have your image exhibited at ASM branch events and on promotion material. Images will also be posted on the branch website, social media accounts, and our monthly newsletter.

Membership Offer
We are pleased to announce that ASM Vic branch are offering ASM membership subsidies for 2024.
Members of ASM are able to access free and/or heavily discounted events at the state and federal level and receive the Microbiology Australia magazine. The Victoria branch of ASM generally organises at least 10 events each year, including social events, seminars, and workshops, which are normally free to members.

AusME Travel Grant
The ASM Vic Branch is sponsoring conference registration for one Victorian student or ECR to attend the AusME conference in Sydney on 30th Oct-1st Nov 2024.
